The railroad had a major influence on the growth of New Mexico.
When the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad (usually just called the Santa Fe Railroad) decided to bypass one of its namesake cities, the city leaders of Santa Fe decided to start their own short line to Lamy, NM the nearest AT&SF station to Santa Fe, NM.
That Railway still operates today, both as a working freight railroad and a scenic run with vintage passenger cars such as the 1158 shown here which was built in 1922 and the Lamy Plaza, built in 1950, one of only 6 Dome/Lounge cars delivered to the Santa Fe Railroad. The virtual tour of the Plaza Lamy will be added to this page soon.
The Flat Car is a great way to site see as you travel south through the city out to Lamy. Its virtual tour will be her soon
